MyProtein Protein Hot Chocolate Review
When Winter hits, MyProtein are there to pick up the pieces with their super tasty, cosy and warm Protein Hot Chocolate.
As it’s starting to get colder and darker outside, you may be reluctant to blend up a protein smoothie or an ice cold protein shake. Instead, you may be feeling more inclined to drink hot chocolate, hot mochas and cosy, warm drinks *cough* Mulled wine *cough*.
Now you might be thinking – “hey, why don’t I just heat up my normal protein shake?”
Sure warm milk and whey protein powder may seem like a great idea at the time, but you’re going to regret it. It doesn’t taste great, and you’ll probably get 3rd degree burns when your shaker explodes (believe me, I know!).
So, knowing that – You may want to try an alternative and check out MyProteins Hot Chocolate and Hot Mocha.
High Protein Hot Chocolate
Creating a protein shake with normal whey and warm water does not equal Protein Hot Chocolate – but this definitely does!
MyProtein has solved every single Hot choccy craving you could ever have with their Protein Hot Chocolate Mix. At first, I was pretty sceptical and decided it was probably just going to be normal protein powder marketed to look like something better.
I was mistaken.
Protein Hot Chocolate Mix:
With 15g of protein per serving this Hot Chocolate really kicks the standard carb laden cocoa into last week.
Using not only Whey Protein for this, MyProtein have combined a mix of:
- PeptoPro®
- Milk Protein Concentrate
- Casein protein
- And ofcourse the whey
If you don’t know already, Casein is a great protein source to have before bed. It works best overnight due to it being a slow digesting protein.
which means?
It keeps both you and your muscles satisfied longer.
Not just good before bed – although that is prime hot choccy time. MyProteins Protein Hot Chocolate is great to drink any time of the day to increase your daily protein intake. Ensuring you’re getting the required amount of protein daily is vital as it helps contribute to the growth and maintenance of lean muscle and assists with muscle recovery.
Serving suggestions:
All it takes is one scoop of the Protein Hot Chocolate Mix and 200ml of water and you have an instant creamy chocolate delight. Considering there’s no need to add milk, this mix is surprisingly thick. If you’re not to keen on the thickness, then just add a few more millilitres of water.
When I made my first hot chocolate I made the mistake of mixing it in the mug and this did leave a few little clumps so I’d advise mixing it up in a shaker first, then pouring it into a mug ready to put it in the microwave.
Always make this with cold water and heat in the microwave. Don’t attempt to use boiling water, especially in your protein shaker.
Nutrition and macros:
Not only does this protein hot chocolate have 15g of protein per serving but it has less than 5g of carbs and less than half a gramme of fat. That’s a pretty epic macro ratio of:
- Protein: 70%
- Carbohydrates: 24%
- Fat: 6%

Why Choose High Protein Over Normal Hot Chocolate
This High Protein Hot Chocolate taste and smells just like Cadburys Hot Chocolate, In my honest opinion, although It is possibly slightly sweeter. However, when you compare the nutritionals of this to Cadburys hot chocolate you can clearly see why picking the high protein version over the normal is better.
With less than 2g of Protein per serving, Over 17g of carbohydrates (which almost 15g are from sugar) and over 2g of fat, Cadburys are clearly unaware of balance and teeth rotting. It’s obvious why you’d rather try the MyProtein hot chocolate over winter as opposed to Cadburys and other popular brands.
My Thoughts
As I said earlier, my first opinion was that this was a marketing ploy. But after many failed attempts of making my own, I decided to cave and give it a try. I didn’t regret it. It makes these cold, dull winter evenings slightly more pleasant. Even more so when I can fit marshmallows and cream alongside my macros to spice this hot chocolate up even more!
However, whatever you do, do not add any sweetener or sugar to this, it really doesn’t need it.
Price and deals:

How to make a protein hot chocolate:
If you’re a real scrooge around Christmas and really can’t warrant spending less than 50p for a warm cup of happiness then I guess you can try and make your own homemade protein hot chocolate with this recipe. After all my experimenting, this was the best I managed to come up with – but I would still recommend buying the Protein hot chocolate mix.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of milk (full fat, skimmed, or semi – whatever you prefer/fits your goals)
- Half a cup of MyProtein Chocolate Smooth Whey Protein
- 2 Tablespoons of cacao powder
- Xanthan gum
Directions:
- Warm all the ingredients in a pan, without boiling and stirring continuously. Add the xanthan gum as you go along ensuring you’re not overdoing it, as too much could make this more of a chocolate stodge than a hot chocolate.
- Add marshmallows – because everybody loves melted mallows…
