Myprotein Pre Workout Review : THE Pre-Workout™

Below, you can read our review of MyPre which you can save 35% on with our exclusive MyProtein Discount Code, but first, here’s a few pre-workout facts and info.

Pre-workout is a stimulant which assists with your workouts by boosting both your energy and physical performance. It’s that little push you need after a long day at work. The motivation to get out to the gym at 5am. It’s basically the answer to your fitness energy prayers.

Pre-Workout MyProtein MyPre

Some people find their energy from foods and coffee – but others find it in a tub of Pre-Workout – Keep reading to find out why we recommend MyPre.

What’s in it and How does it work?

Pre-Workout is basically:

  • A lot of caffeine mixed with some:
  • Creatine
  • Beta Alanine
  • Amino Acids
  • topped with some vitamins and minerals
  • And finished with a tasty flavour

We’ve reviewed the Blue Raspberry flavoured MYPre but there are plenty of other flavours for you to try which I will tell you about later on.

It may sound more confusing than GCSE science, but the key benefits of each ingredient will be the driving force getting you through your workout. Pushing you mentally and physically to keep going.

Caffeine –

we all know what caffeine does, most of us have it daily.

  • In coffee
  • tea
  • fizzy drinks
  • Even in your chocolate bar

It’s hard to escape it.

But why would you want to?

Caffeine increases alertness and reactions. It pretty much keeps you running on top form. 2 scoops of Myprotein MyPre provides you with 5.5 cappuccinos worth of coffee – I’m sure the French and Italians drink more than that in one morning.

Creatine –

A helpful supplement when working with repetitive powerful movements.

If you’re planning to lift heavy, then this supplement really helps with your physical exertion. In Biochemistry terms it’s

“involved in the supply of energy for muscular contractions”.

It’s basically going to help you get stronger, seriously. Of course, there’re plenty of naysayers who will tell you that’s rubbish…. But It’s not, and It’s been researched a whole load.

Beta Alanine –

If you’ve never had pre-workout before, then this is the ingredient that’s going to really screw with you.

It’s well known for giving users a tingle. When I say tingle, I don’t mean a nice little shiver I mean pins and needles level. It’s possibly one of the oddest feelings I have felt in my entire life. For the science behind why then you may want to read this, but in layman’s terms, Beta-Alanine delays tiredness and assists with high-intensity exercises.

Vitamins and minerals –

No supplement would be complete without stuffing it full of healthy goodies and that’s exactly what Myprotein have done with this pre-workout.

Containing vitamins:

  • B6
  • B12
  • Riboflavin
  • and Niacin

Vitamins, which all contribute to increasing energy levels and reducing tiredness.

So, what do you get when you combine all those ingredients? An absolute powerhouse of energy and strength! #BeastMode

Is Pre-Workout Safe and what are the side effects

As with everything in the supplement industry, PreWorkout has come under some criticism.

You can’t go on any forum without someone telling you to just have a coffee and a banana. Sure, you can try that – some find it a great energy booster. BUT, if you regularly drink coffee you’re probably pretty well adjusted to it and unlikely to feel the benefit.

There will always be people who say that supplements are bad for you, you’ve just got to weave past all the rubbish and find the hard hitting facts, without opinion and speculation.

Pre-Workout MyProtein MyPre

Like any product high in caffeine MyPre pre-workout isn’t suitable for pregnant and/or breastfeeding women and children under the age of 18. There are no other advisories other than these,

though personally, if you’ve got any sort of heart issue?

I don’t think caffeine is your best bet.

Remember caffeine is a stimulant, so if you’re working out late at night you may find your usual sleep pattern taking a hit. One of the few side effects many people face is struggling to doze off at night and feeling pretty wired around midnight. It all depends on how quickly your body metabolises the pre-workout.

Any other side effects?

Another question we’ve been asked is

“why does pre-workout make you tingle?”

As we explained in the ingredients, this is due to the Beta-Alanine a very important ingredient for assisting you with your high-intensity exercise. Depending on the Pre-Workout you use it could also be due to Niacin. Too much Niacin can cause your skin to get red and splotchy and may cause some itchiness, it’s very dramatic, but harmless, in fact, many people actually enjoy it.

There is evidence that shows pre-workout is safe when used on a short-term basis. At the end of the day, you don’t want to become dependant. Yes, it’s an awesome tool to have to help you progress with your goals and give you a helping hand when necessary, but if you’re relying on it every day to have a good workout then you should probably sort yourself out and take a little detox. You’ll probably find you’ve built up a lot of resistance to the caffeine and you actually don’t really need it in the first place.

In addition to the above it’s also important to remember Pre-Workout is a supplement and it means that.

Food supplements, where possible should never be chosen above real, nutritious food.

If you’re taking more nutrients from pills and capsules than you are from real food?

Then you’re doing something severely wrong.

My thoughts

This Pre-Workout is epic. The Blue Raspberry flavour MyPre is what we’ve been trialling and it has not disappointed. Let’s start from the top: The Pre-workout comes in a sealed tub, which makes a change from MyProteins usual bags – and actually makes the Pre-Workout look more classy and expensive.

It cost us £12.03 as we managed to get an awesome 30% off deal AND it was already on offer. Usually, **As Of Writing** it would cost £24.99 – so we blagged an AMAZING deal! You can too, using our MyProtein discount codes.

Taste

So, yeah. The taste is pretty unique. You have to mix 1-2 scoops (go easy and take a half scoop if it’s your first time) with 300-400ml of water. I advise you to shake it fiercely as some ingredients blend better than others.

Pre-Workout MyProtein MyPre

To begin with, the well-blended powders and flavours taste like a great, sweet slush puppy but the further you get down the shaker the more you can taste the powdery taste. The harder you blend, the less you can taste it – but when in doubt imagine you’re necking a jaeger bomb, it gets me through the last couple of sips.

How Does the Pre-Workout Feel?

Pre-Workout MyProtein MyPre

MyPre made me feel invincible, for real. I was bouncing around the house waiting to get out and go to the gym (and that’s pretty rare). The first time I took it I managed to run 5k in my fastest time – oh yeah, ignore people when they say Pre-Workout is bad for running, it’s definitely not – The 2nd time I took it was for a back and biceps session and I felt like I was partaking in a bodybuilding contest. I was super setting, Tri-setting, anything to keep moving. I lifted bigger weights and generally felt unstoppable, after my usual 40 minutes I just wanted to carry on…

I’m pretty sure the Pre-Workout tingles were part of the reason I kept moving, the more I sweated, the more they seemed to fade away – So I guess they really are a good thing.

Is pre workout necessary and is it worth it?

No, and Yes. They are not necessary if you’re a warrior who can deal with a lack of sleep, work, life and still have the time and energy for a killer gym session. But we mere humans aren’t warriors and many of us cringe at the thought of an energy lacking gym session. And how do you expect to lift heavier and train harder, when you’re constantly underperforming due to lack of energy?

Pre-Workout MyProtein MyPre

Worth it, Hell Yeah! The buzz is awesome, like no other. You’re not going to get the same from “coffee and a banana”. But why don’t you decide for yourself? Get yourself a tub of MyPre today using our 10% off discount code.

How to take Pre-Workout without the Tingles

Some people love the tingle, others simply can’t stand it. It’s technically called “paresthesia” which sounds a load scarier than it actually is. It’s completely harmless.

Pre-Workout MyProtein MyPre

The tingle should wear off after around 15 minutes and is caused by the Beta-Alanine, a pretty awesome addition to Pre-Workouts as it helps with your athletic performance, endurance, delays your tiredness and helps with overall strength building, however if you really can’t deal with the tingles you have a few options that could work for you.

  • Find a Pre-Workout that doesn’t contain Beta-Alanine, this could be pretty hard but there are a few out there.
  • Take some ibuprofen fifteen minutes before your pre-workout
  • The more you take the more your body stops reacting to it, this doesn’t mean take loads at a time. but eventually, after continued use, you’ll adapt.
  • If you can handle eating before a workout, try taking your Pre-Workout alongside a small meal as this is reported to help many people.
