When we heard our (almost) favourite chocolate company were releasing a protein packed version of their mars and snickers bars we were drooling with anticipation. And now they are here.
Snickers Protein Bar
Let’s start off by looking at the nutty, caramel, chocolate, nougat of joy. We’ve all seen the adverts. “You’re not you when you’re hungry” and “Get Some Nuts”. Endorsed by a host of celebrities, Snickers is one of the most highly marketed chocolate bars out there. But what about the protein versions? We definitely think Mr T would be straight on this like white on rice! Unless you’re allergic to peanuts – which would be pretty unlucky – you’ve got to love a cheeky Snickers every now and then. But if you’re strict with your macros it can be almost impossible to fit the normal ones in, hence these beauties.
With 18g of protein per serving as opposed to the usual 4g, you’re getting way more bang for your buck. Just take a look at the rest of the nutritional information:

As expected, these chocolate bars bossed it. They don’t taste exactly like a snickers bar, but instead a snickers bar combined with a protein bar – makes sense because that’s pretty much what it is. Slightly chewier than a normal snickers, it takes longer to eat, which is never a bad thing. The nutty taste is perfect and just like that of an original snickers bar. These bars are perfect for a guilt free, macro fitting cheat.
The original chocolate bar with a twist. Similar to a snickers, Mars is filled with nougat goodness, chocolate, and caramel – but minus the nuts. Mars bars have been a staple chocolate choice for years. Not only do you find them lurking in every possible Christmas selection box, but they’re now available at your local fish and chip shop, most likely deep fried and full of highly calorific fatness.
We’re not here to talk about deep fried Mars bars though, the complete opposite in fact!
Let’s look at the new high protein Mars bars. With 37% less sugar than the normal mars bar, the protein mars bar has only 13g of sugar. Just enough for a post-workout buzz, without the sugar crash. In comparison to the classic mars bar, the new high protein version really has a lot going for it.

Like the Snickers bars, these mars bars taste like a mars bar and a protein bar combined. Not as light and fluffy as an original mars bar, but still rich and satisfying. Chewier than the original this bar keeps you satisfied for waaaay longer than the classic mars. I’d definitely pack a couple of these away in the gym bag for that post-workout protein hit.
These bars incredibly satisfying and fix all chocolate cravings. Whether you’re counting your macros or following a calorie controlled diet these are much easier to fit in with your lifestyle.
